Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

NAWMA offers a household chemical and paint drop-off facility at its Edinburgh North Resource Recovery Centre (RRC). There is no charge to use the facility, which is open to the public seven days/week, click here for opening hours.

Residents wishing to ‘detox’ their homes can responsibly dispose of hazardous substances such as:

Glues, grout and putty

NAWMA Household Hazardous Waste - Brake Fluid

Brake fluid, fuel, degreasers and coolants

Poisons

Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides

Cleaning products, household chemicals and fumigants

Liquid paints, solvents, varnishes and stains

Acids and alkalis

Note: the facility is equipped to accept household quantities only (this includes up to 100 litres of paint).  No commercial customers, thank you. 

Some items such as medical waste, empty chemical drums, asbestos, radioactive materials, flares, explosives and ammunition will not be accepted. Contact the EPA on 8204 2004 or refer to the EPA website for information on how to correctly dispose of these items.

Dispose of sharps correctly by using a designated collection point such as a Clean Needle Program site, a pharmacy outlet that has a sharps disposal facility or council collection points. Click here for details of local collection points.
